Lets Talk Textiles #1
Hello everyone!! I can't believe it but it's the first of November today and I am so excited because this is going to be a great blogging month, I have so many ideas for my blog and I can't wait to get writing!! Today I am doing something a little different, it won't be for everyone but I thought I would kick start November with my little new series!! It's called 'Let's Talk Textiles' (if you didn't already guess that by the title!!) and it's based on fashion and textiles. So there is going to be blog posts about sewing and making things like cushions, home decorations and just lots of fun little DIY's like that!! This isn't everyone's cup of tea but either way I hope you all enjoy...!!!
So as you may know I study fashion at college. My course is Fashion and Clothing which means I learn a lot about designers, production of clothes, retail and I have to make scrapbooks along with making accessories and clothes for the projects. I have had a few requests to show you what my scrapbooks look like and also what I made. In my small series I am going to be showing you a lot of my work, giving you advice and showing you how to make things. And as it gets closer to Christmas I will be doing lots of fun seasonal things!! I did textiles for two years in high school which was really fun and it was one of my favourite lessons. When I did textiles I learnt a lot about how to make all sorts of things, in fact I have made a range of cushions, accessories and even a dress.
This first post is going to be showing you what I keep in my portable sewing box which I used all throughout high school and something that I still use at college. I have never seen a blog post on this sort of thing before but if your like me and like to do lots of DIY things or you do textiles this may come in handy!!

This first post is going to be showing you what I keep in my portable sewing box which I used all throughout high school and something that I still use at college. I have never seen a blog post on this sort of thing before but if your like me and like to do lots of DIY things or you do textiles this may come in handy!!
Firstly I have this box which is quite small but fits a lot of my equipment in. It has a little handle on top along with a tight lock so that it wont come undone. I got this from the range for about £2.99 so it is really inexpensive and handy to have. It has a removable section so that you can have your main items on the top and other items in the bottom.
This is what's on the top tray. It is split in to three sections and in one part I just keep my highlighter and some scissors. I keep the scissors on the top tray in case I ever need to quickly cut some fabric or thread and they are really easy to get too. I then have the highlighter if I to make notes on anything but half the time it doesn't really have much purpose but I just carry it around anyway. Next I have my box of pins which are easily accessible in case I need to pin something quickly, I also secured the box with a hair tie just so I know that the box won't come undone and I won't end up getting pricked by a pin (which has happened many times!!). Lastly is a little thread and button set which sometimes comes in handy if you need to quickly repair something.
Moving on to the bottom section I have all of my main items. I will try to keep this part short and sweet so that I don't go on about each individual item too much.
Firstly is a pin cushion which is useful to have if your working on a mannequin, then I have some fabric marker pencils which are really good for when you are marking out a template on fabric and they easily rub away, then I have a sharpener in case I need to sharpen any of the pencils, I also have a plastic thimble which I use when doing hand sewing just so I don't prick my fingers with a needle. I then have some tiny thread scissors and two unpicks, I have both sized unpicks so that whatever I am working on I have the right sized one to use, I also have some cute little blue beads which I am currently using on a project along with the blue and green sequin pots. I also have a plain white thread a bobbin which are useful to have so that you can get set up straight away on a sewing machine. Next I have some buttons which I am planning on using in my scrapbook and above them are some more markers. These are tailors chalk which are similar to the pencils but just a chalk version, lastly I have a wheel of sewing needles which I use for hand sewing on beads.
Wow I am quite impressed I managed to write about all of the items with out going on too much!! Anyway that is all of what I keep in my sewing box, if you do textiles at school or you just enjoy crafts then you probably recognised most of these items. I think that this series will be quite fun to write about however if this isn't your type of thing I apologise but don't worry I will defiantly still be writing a lot of beauty and fashion posts!! Hopefully this gave you an idea of what sort of things will be in this series and hopefully this has given you ideas on what you could buy for your sewing box?!! Anyway I hope that you enjoyed and I'll see you next time...Bryony xx
