DIY: Nail Varnish

Hello everyone!! Today is my first DIY blog post, I am going to be explaining/showing you how I organize and store all of my nail varnishes. I have two ways of keeping my nail varnishes organised and I have two pictures below so you can choose which you would like to do. I have also taken step by step pictures so that it is easy for you to re-create. (This is not a sponsored blog post, most of my nail varnishes are from Barry M because it's my favourite nail varnish brand)

These are the two ways that I like to keep my nail varnishes organized. There is the Nail Varnish Topper and the Nail Varnish Scrap Book. If you would like to learn how to do the Nail Varnish Topper in 5 easy steps then keep reading!! But if you would like to know how I did the Nail Varnish Scrap Book then scroll down!!

Nail Varnish Topper
The equipment that you will need is...a pair of scissors, a ruler, a pencil, nail varnishes, double sided sticky tape, a plain white piece of A4 paper and a miniature shaped hole puncher.

Step 1: Take your A4 piece of paper, a ruler and a pencil. Line the ruler to the edge of the paper and draw a light line with your pencil on the paper.
Do this again but move your ruler to the line that you drew.
You should then end up with five lines that are going down your page. Next you need you to get your scissors and cut on each of the lines so that you end up with five strips of paper.

Step 2:  You will now need some tissue to lay out on your work area. Then you can put your first strip of paper on top, ready to be painted.
Take any one of your nail varnish and paint a medium sized square on to the paper (make sure that the nail varnish is thinly spread).
Then repeat this step all the way across the strip of paper with each nail varnish. But make sure that you leave roughly a 2cm gap in between each square.

Step 3: After painting all of the squares, wait roughly 5 minutes for all of them to dry. Whilst they are drying you can prepare for the next step. Grab your double sided tape and cut individual pieces out,  making sure that they are big enough to cover your nail varnishes squares. Cut a piece for each nail varnish and then place them on the edge of your table/work area until you are ready to use them.

Step 4: Now that your nail varnish squares are all dry you cant start to cut them out. Grab one piece of sticky tape and place it on the flip side to your nail varnish square.
After place the square in to the hole puncher with the colour part facing downwards. Then press down on the hole puncher and you should have your shape. Once you have done this you need to peel the sticky tape off (you have to be delicate when doing this or else your shape could get crushed). Now that it has been peeled you can stick the shape on the lid of the nail varnish.
Then repeat this step with each of your nail varnishes...

Step 5: Check that each shape is stuck down securely. Then all of your nail varnishes are complete!!

The nail varnish topper is good to have on your nail varnishes, if you store them in a drawer or box like this. It allows you to see what colour the nail varnish is, so it is easy to pick out which colour you want to use. Also it saves you rummaging through a whole box trying to find one specific colour and it's very quick and easy to do!!

Nail Varnish Scrap Book Page
Another way that I like to organise my nail varnishes is by painting a little squares on one of the pages in my beauty/fashion scrap books. This is really quick and easy to complete!!

The equipment that you will need is...a scrapbook or notebook, a pencil, a ruler, an eraser/rubber, nail varnishes and a liquid/ink roller pen.

Step 1: Take your scrapbook or note book and turn to the page that you are going to use. Then on the next page place some tissue out flat. This is going to protect the pages underneath just in case you spill or put to much nail varnish on the page.

Step 2: From the top of your page leave a 5cm gap for your page title. Then with your first nail polish paint a small square and spread the polish thinly so that it dries quickly and doesn't smudge. Then with your second nail polish estimate a 2cm gap from your first square and start to paint another square roughly the same size. Depending on the size of your scrapbook or note book you can paint how ever many squares you can fit, on to one row.

Step 3: Once your first row is completed allow the squares to dry for 5 minutes so that when you move on to the next row they won't get smudged. After they have dried choose your next nail polish and place it below the first square, then in front of the nail varnish paint the new square.
Do this all the way along with the other nail varnishes and use the first row to help you paint the new squares in place, correctly.
Once you have completed all of the rows allow the nail polishes 10 minutes to dry.

Step 4: When all of your nail varnish squares are dry remove all of you nail varnishes from the page. Then take your ruler and draw two lines below your row of nail varnish squares. When you do this step use a pencil so that it stays neat. Then at the top of the page draw a line where the title will go. (Draw the lines very lightly because afterwards they will be rubbed out)
Then under each nail varnish square write out the names of the nail polishes in pencil. Once you have done this you can rub out the lines but not the writing.

Step 5: Now that you have written out all of the nail polishes names in pencil you can go over them in pen. I used a liquid pen because it's a lot easier to write with in my scrapbook however you can use sharpies, pencil crayons or felt tips. After you have gone over each name in pen you can rub out the pencil or just leave it (depending on whether it is visible or not). And the last thing is to write the title at the top of the page!!
The nail varnish Scrap Book page is a really nice and pretty way to keep track of what nail varnishes you have and it can help you to decide what colour you want to wear. You could even buy a miniature notepad and on each page do a nail varnish square. Something else that you can do is categorise your pages. For example you could do branded pages e.g. Barry M, Models Own, Essie or you colour co-ordinate the pages. Another idea would be to separate the polishes depending on their finishes, so you could have the Barry M Jelly, Sparkly or Matt. It can be personalised however you like!!

I hope that you enjoyed this rather long and creative blog post!! If you re-create either of these Nail Varnish DIY's you can tell me on Instagram (@perksofbeingpastelpink) or Twitter (@pastelpinkperks). That's all for today and I will see you on Saturday, thank you!! Bryony xx
